It's not all that
hard
This
Months Health Tip

Proper breathing is the key to
health!
Research continues to prove
that proper breathing promotes overall health and increases metabolism. It
is a very important key to health, if not one of the most important; if
you don’t believe me try not breathing. How long did you make it? Most
people can’t go without breathing for even 45 seconds before gasping for
that life filling breath of air. Breathing in and out is something we just
do without much thought, its one of those things pre-programmed in at
birth. In the Bible it states; and the Lord God formed man of the dust
of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man
became a living soul. (Genesis 2:7) And we became a living soul for
that day to this, just breathing in and out without so much as a single
thought.
Check out what the experts are
saying:
"Deep breathing techniques which
increase oxygen to the cell are the most
important factors in living a disease
free and energetic life. . . . Remember. Where cells get enough oxygen,
cancer will not, cannot occur." --Dr. Otto Warburg, President, Institute of
Cell Physiology, Nobel Prize Winner (Dr. Warburg is the only person to
ever win the Nobel Prize twice in medicine and he was nominated for a
third.)
"Breathing correctly is the key to better
fitness, muscle strength, stamina, and athletic
endurance." --Dr. Michael Yessis,
Phd., President Sports Training Institute, Fitness Writer - Muscle and
Fitness Magazine
"Oxygenation through deep breathing boosts the
immune system and can rid the body of chronic
illnesses." --Dr. Sheldon Hendler,
MD, Medical Researcher Cell Oxygenation, Author "The Oxygen
Breakthrough"
"Deep diaphragmatic breathing stimulates the
cleansing of the lymph system by creating a vacuum effect which pulls the
lymph through the bloodstream. This increases the rate of toxic
elimination by as much as 15 times the normal rate." --Dr. J.W. Shields, MD, Lymph, lymph glands, and
homeostasis. Lymphology, v25, n4, Dec. 1992, p. 147
When the body is totally
deprived of food, the metabolism slows and life can be sustained for
several weeks. However, when the body is totally deprived of oxygen,
metabolism comes to a halt immediately and life can only be sustained for
a few minutes. Does it not make common sense that the way we breathe
day-to-day has the most dramatic effect on our body's health than any
other single process? Let's take a little breathing test right now.
Place your hands on your chest and on your stomach. Feel what's
happening. Nothing . . . no motion . . . you're barely breathing . .
. you're almost dead! Physiologists tell us that we use only 1/5 of
our lung capacity -- that's only 20%!!! Why? We sit all day
and we're under a lot of stress. We're barely breathing, so what's the
result? We're sick, we're tired and we're over
weight!
The
Solution You're going to spend
10 minutes daily thinking and breathing at the same time. I know this may
be hard for those old couch potatoes but to lets give it a try. Anyone Can
Do It young people, seniors, athletic people, new moms, some people with
back injuries, knees, ankles -- many with asthma, fibromyalgia, MS,
arthritis, smokers, people with allergies, respiratory problems,
recovering from surgery and many other challenges -- including wheelchair
bound. You can do it! Take in a deep breath and feel it go into the lower
chest area making your chest and stomach move as you breath. Now I want
you to be still and follow the air as it comes in through your nose and
goes down into your lungs. On the exhale follow the breath out through
your mouth and give a push at the end to get even the old stale air out
that has been trapped in there for a while. Only due this a few times,
maybe two to five times will do. Note: If you haven’t been a deep breather
you could get very dizzy, if you do stop and try it again later. As you
continue being still and following your breath in through your nostrils
and out through your mouth see if you can find the source of this energy
that causes you to breathe in and out. Spend two or three minutes looking
inside and feeling this life force, try and know it enjoying every moment.
Now as you breath in, see and feel new life entering you with each breath
and pay attention to the life force growing within you. As you exhale out
see and feel death along with old toxins and pains leave out through your
mouth to be gone forever. Now as you inhale, guide the breath to your
right arm and down to your hand at the same time making a fist and
tightening your arm muscles. Exhale out while relaxing the hand and arm,
guide any pain and tension you may have out with the air as it leaves this
area. Repeat this in the left hand and arm and when finished do both hands
and arms at the same time. Repeat this last step three times before moving
on. When you have finished with the hands and arms go down to each foot
and leg and then do the same with both feet and legs in unison as you did
with your hands and arms. Now as before repeat both feet and legs at the
same time for three more times. Our ten minutes is almost up, so at the
end of this exercise continue being still and breathing deep. Do as before
and go within looking to the life force watching it grow and expand with
each new breath of air. When you feel the calmness of the moment, give
thanks to the One that breathed into your nostrils the breath of
life. May this be the beginning of a renewed you as it has been
for me. Gary Astle
